Hingham Fire Chief Steve Murphy reminds Weir River Water System users that the Mandatory Water Ban, now in effect for Hingham, Hull, and North Cohasset, is critical to protecting potable water for public health and water levels to provide fire safety.
Current Status: Level 2 – Significant Drought
Lawn Irrigation Prohibited / Essential Hand Held Watering Allowed
The past week has put a strain on our tank levels and we want to remind residents that we remain in Level 2 restrictions and will continue through the month of September. The tank levels are headed to a critical level and we are seeing a significant drop between the hours of 3 AM and 8 AM which indicates automatic lawn watering. The levels of Accord Pond and our wells continues to be affected by the drought conditions.
It is important to maintain adequate tank levels for both potable drinking water and fire protection for our communities.
All non-essential outdoor usage is prohibited (lawn irrigation; washing vehicles, exterior building surfaces, parking lots, driveways, and sidewalks; and, filling swimming pools). Hand held watering for gardens, landscape plantings and other essential needs is allowed.
